Minister for Cancer confirms The Government is looking at expanding tissue freezing capacity and reviewing consent processes

In Monday's debate on brain cancer research and treatment, Sharon Hodgson MP, the Minister for Cancer, confirmed that work is underway to review tissue retention guidance and consent processes. The Minister also confirmed that the Department is looking at ways to help NHS Trusts expand freezer capacity, with further updates expected in the Autumn.

This matters because tissue freezing after brain tumour surgery can open the door to personalised treatments, clinical trials and cutting-edge research. Yet access remains inconsistent, meaning some patients miss out simply because of where they are treated.

We are grateful to the Minister for meeting with Ellie earlier this month to hear directly why this issue matters so deeply to patients and families.

The Campaign for Owain’s Law looks forward to seeing further progress in the months ahead, so that no brain cancer patient misses out on modern treatment and research options because of a postcode lottery.
