The Campaign for Owain’s Law visited the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of the tissue-freezing postcode lottery facing brain cancer patients and to discuss how greater consistency, consent and patient choice could improve access to future treatment and research opportunities.
MSPs and stakeholders joined the Campaign to hear more about Owain’s story and the impact that decisions around tissue handling and storage can have on patients. Tissue freezing after brain tumour surgery can help preserve opportunities for personalised treatments, advanced diagnostics, clinical trials and research, but access remains inconsistent across the UK.
The Campaign is grateful to everyone who took the time to attend, hear directly about the issues facing patients and families, and discuss how greater consistency could be achieved in Scotland.
The Campaign for Owain’s Law will continue working across the UK to ensure patients are properly informed about what happens to their tissue and have greater choice over how it is stored and used.
